Location: San Antonio, TX
Job Type: Full-Time Permanent
Compensation: Up to $250,000 per year
Schedule: Monday-Friday 40 Hours per Week

About the Opportunity

An established and growing integrative and functional medicine practice in San Antonio, Texas, is seeking an experienced Medical Director (MD/DO) to lead clinical operations, oversee patient care standards, and support the professional development of its clinical team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a physician who combines strong clinical expertise with a collaborative leadership style and a passion for whole-person, patient-centered care.

The Medical Director will play a key role in guiding clinical decision-making, supporting advanced practice providers, establishing consistent care protocols, and ensuring high standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Care & Oversight
  • Provide direct patient care within an integrative and functional medicine setting.

  • Evaluate and guide individualized treatment plans, ensuring clinical appropriateness and patient safety.

  • Prescribe and manage medications, diagnostic testing, and therapies in accordance with established medical standards.

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation.

  • Serve as the primary medical authority for clinical decision-making.

Clinical Leadership & Governance
  • Provide clinical oversight, supervision, and guidance to nurse practitioners and other prescribing providers.

  • Act as the escalation point for complex or higher-risk patient cases.

  • Develop, implement, and refine clinical guidelines, protocols, and treatment pathways.

  • Promote consistency in clinical practices while allowing appropriate provider autonomy.

  • Reinforce adherence to patient safety standards and evidence-informed care.

Provider Mentorship & Development
  • Mentor and support clinical providers through clear expectations, constructive feedback, and collaborative leadership.

  • Foster a respectful, professional, and patient-centered work environment.

  • Support provider confidence and consistency in delivering quality care.

  • Lead by example through accountability, reliability, and sound clinical judgment.

Operational Collaboration
  • Partner with practice leadership to align clinical operations with workflows, training, and organizational goals.

  • Provide clinical input on staffing, provider development, and care delivery improvements.

  • Support initiatives that improve patient safety, efficiency, and consistency.

  • Collaborate with administrative leadership while maintaining appropriate boundaries between clinical and operational responsibilities.

Qualifications & Requirements
  • MD or DO degree with an active, unrestricted Texas medical license.

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or a comparable specialty.

  • Experience supervising or collaborating with nurse practitioners and advanced practice providers.

  • Prior medical leadership, clinical oversight, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.

  • Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage complex medical situations.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to lead with consistency, professionalism, and accountability.

  • Experience in integrative or functional medicine preferred but not required.

  • Willingness to learn and embrace a whole-person approach to patient care.

Work Schedule & Location

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:30 PM, approximately 40 hours per week. Some flexibility may be required based on clinical needs.
