Surgery - Cardiovascular Physician Assistant

Seeking a Cardiothoracic Surgery PA in Alabama I Vein Harvest Experience

Job Description and Schedule:

• Monday-Friday schedule, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
• Call rotation - currently set at 1:2 (additional compensation after 10days of call)
• Work directly alongside 1 Cardiothoracic Surgeon and 1 experienced PA
• MUST have vein harvesting experience.
• Comprehensive inpatient and surgical role
• Opportunity to work in a growing cardiovascular surgery program
• Surgical First Assist
• First assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures, including CABG and other cardiac surgeries.
• Perform endoscopic and/or open vein harvesting for coronary artery bypass grafting procedures.
• Assist with chest closure, wound closure, hemostasis, and surgical exposure.
• Participate in preoperative and postoperative surgical management.

Inpatient & ICU Management

• Conduct daily hospital rounds on post-operative cardiothoracic surgery patients.
• Manage patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following cardiac and thoracic procedures.
• Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the surgeon and multidisciplinary care teams.
• Interpret laboratory results, imaging studies, and diagnostic testing.

Procedural Responsibilities

• Remove chest tubes, pacing wires, and surgical drains.
• Evaluate and manage post-operative complications.
• Perform bedside procedures as appropriate.
• Provide inpatient consultations in the Cath Lab and assist with cardiovascular patient evaluations.

Candidate Parameters:

Required

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• NCCPA certification.
• Active or eligible state PA licensure.
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• Minimum of 2 years of Cardiothoracic Surgery experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience with endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) and/or open vein harvesting.
• Experience managing post-operative cardiac surgery patients.
