Locums - Syracuse, New York, NP/PA Vascular Surgery Opening
Clinical Role
- ASAP start with ongoing need, anticipated approximately 6 months
- 1 NP or PA needed
- 40 hours per week with some call
- 100% inpatient Vascular Surgery; no clinic
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- Mix of inpatient rounding, medical management, OR first assisting, and pre/post-operative care
- Coverage needed while recruiting for a permanent provider
Schedule & Coverage
- 24/7 service coverage shared among approximately 7-8 APPs
- Flexible 10- and 12-hour shifts
- Typical shifts:
- 7:00 am-5:00 pm
- 7:00 am-7:00 pm
- 9:00 am-9:00 pm
- 7:00 pm-7:00 am
- Nights and weekends required on a rotating basis
- Night and weekend shifts are scheduled in-house coverage, not call
- Typically 1-2 call days per week
- Call may involve remaining after a scheduled shift for OR coverage or home phone/beeper coverage
- Call provider may remain approximately 4-5 hours after shift for OR coverage
- Callback after leaving the hospital is uncommon
- 36-hour weeks with 3 12-hour shifts may occasionally be accommodated based on staffing
Practice Setting & Case Mix
- High-acuity Vascular Surgery service
- Approximately 15-20 patients on the service
- Individual provider typically rounds on 3-5 patients per day
- Approximately 7-8 OR cases per day across the service
- Directly supports approximately 5 Vascular Surgeons
- Vascular Surgery only; no cross-specialty coverage
Procedures & Clinical Expectations
- Inpatient medical management, including diabetes, hypertension, and acute illness
- Pre- and post-operative Vascular Surgery care
- OR first assisting
- Peripheral bypass
- Carotid surgery
- AV fistula creation
- Open abdominal aortic surgery
- Suturing
- Permcath removal
- Wound VAC management
- Dressing changes and wound care
- No Interventional Radiology procedures
Support & Systems
- Established team of experienced NPs and PAs
- Epic EMR
Requirements & Credentialing
- NCCPA or ANCC/AANP certification required, as applicable
- NP candidates must have RNFA
- Active New York license required at time of submission
- BLS and ACLS required
- 2-3 years of Vascular Surgery experience required
- Cardiac Surgery experience may be considered if it included Vascular Surgery cross-coverage
- Must be comfortable first assisting in open Vascular Surgery cases
