Physician Services: Medical Physicians (OBGYN)
Site of Service: Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center (ATAMMC), Fort Belvoir, VA
Hours: Two 8-hour daytime shifts and one 24-hour in-house Labor & Delivery call shift each 2-week period; 24-hour shift runs and may be split into two 12-hour shifts ( and ); on-call back-up from home for 24 hours immediately following the in-house shift; may include weeknights, weekends, and federal holidays
Position Overview: The OBGYN physician supporting ATAMMC delivers comprehensive women's health care across outpatient clinics, surgery, Labor & Delivery, and inpatient consultation. This position combines full-spectrum obstetrics and gynecology practice with team-based military medicine, resident education, and rotating in-house call coverage.
Position Qualifications / Requirements
Education :
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.)
Graduated from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body; graduates of foreign medical schools practicing in the U.S. must possess both a medical license and certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or Fifth Pathway; completion of undergraduate education, medical school, internship, and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Licensure :
Must possess a valid unrestricted medical license in at least one state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States
Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration number.
Certification :
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
completion of AWHONN
ECO training ( Emergencies in Clinical Obstetrics (ECO) hands-on course created by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG is required
Board Certification : Must be board eligible by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) and maintain professional credentials in accordance with applicable regulations.
Experience : Must have been actively practicing in inpatient/outpatient, full-spectrum OB/GYN for at least 3 of the past 4 years.
Duties
Provides comprehensive obstetric and gynecologic care in outpatient, inpatient, and surgical settings.
Evaluates, diagnoses, and manages a full spectrum of obstetric and gynecologic conditions across the continuum of care.
Provides inpatient and outpatient gynecologic procedures and surgeries, including preoperative, operative, and postoperative management.
Delivers inpatient obstetric care on Labor & Delivery, including management of normal and high-risk pregnancies, labor induction, labor management, and postpartum care.
Performs vaginal deliveries, operative vaginal deliveries, and cesarean deliveries as clinically indicated.
Provides in-house Labor & Delivery call coverage and evaluates obstetric and gynecologic consultations from the Emergency Department and inpatient services.
Collaborates with nursing, anesthesia, neonatology, emergency medicine, and surgical services to ensure high-quality patient care.
Documents patient encounters, procedures, and clinical decision-making in the electronic medical record in accordance with applicable standards and policies.
Supervises and instructs resident physicians, medical students, and physician assistant students in inpatient and outpatient settings.
Participates in quality assurance, patient safety, and clinical practice improvement initiatives.
Base Down Days
The MTF observes installation training holidays and base down days. The contractor shall not be required to work on these days and will not receive additional compensation.
Citizenship/English Language/Physical Capability : U.S. citizenship is required for this position. All contractor personnel must demonstrate professional proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, sufficient to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and government personnel. This position requires the ability to stand, walk, and remain on feet for extended periods; lift and move patients or equipment as required by the clinical setting; and perform the physical demands inherent to the specialty.
