Nurse Practitioner Gastroenterology Opportunity in Fort Hood, TX
Position Overview
The Nurse Practitioner will support the Gastroenterology Department by evaluating patients, developing evidence based treatment plans, and collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary teams. This role requires recent hands on GI experience, excellent clinical judgment, and the ability to deliver safe, high quality care in a dynamic military medical environment.
You will manage both acute and chronic GI conditions, perform comprehensive assessments, prescribe treatments, and support emergency interventions when needed.
Schedule & Work Expectations
- Duty hours may fall between , Sunday through Saturday
- Shifts typically 12 hours, may extend up to 16 hours
- On call and call back duties may be assigned based on operational needs
Core Responsibilities
- GI Disease Management Diagnose, prescribe, and treat a wide range of GI disorders and injuries
- Conduct routine physical exams and manage moderately complex acute/chronic illnesses
- Perform initial work ups, assessments, and develop treatment plans
- Order and interpret labs, imaging, and diagnostic procedures
- Distinguish normal vs. abnormal findings and identify early signs of serious conditions
- Provide surveillance and stabilization for chronically ill GI patients
- Adjust treatment regimens within established protocols
- Collaborate with gastroenterologists and primary care teams
- Deliver emergency interventions when physicians are unavailable
- Maintain complete and accurate documentation
- Provide occasional preceptorship/teaching for students and trainees
- Manage an assigned panel of outpatient GI patients
Minimum Qualifications
- MSN or DNP from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Minimum 3 years post graduate NP experience
- Experience must be with recent hands on GI care
- Current, full, unrestricted NP license
- National NP certification
- NPI, DEA, BLS
Physical & Environmental Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Long periods of standing, walking, bending, crouching
- Exposure to infectious diseases, chemicals, fumes, radiation, and electrical hazards
Assignment Details
- Hours per Week: 40
- Contract Length: 26 weeks + two 6 month extensions
- Start Date Target: August 15, 2026
