Clinical Role
Join an established emergency medicine team in Council Bluffs, Iowa, providing routine emergency department coverage on an ongoing basis. This opportunity offers flexible scheduling of 4-12 shifts per month across day, evening, and overnight shifts. The emergency department has an annual volume of approximately 22,000 visits, with APP support and an efficient transfer center process.

Clinical Details & Responsibilities
Practice Setting:
Emergency Department
Annual Patient Volume:
Approximately 22,000 visits per year
Annual Volume Breakdown:
- 77% discharged
- 14% admitted
- 4% left before treatment completed
- 2.8% observation
- 2.5% transferred
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and treat emergency department patients
- Provide routine emergency medicine care
- Manage emergency codes
- Perform appropriate emergency procedures
- Stabilize and manage acutely ill patients
- Coordinate transfers through the transfer center
- Provide appropriate patient disposition
- Participate in the department's day, evening, and overnight coverage schedule
Trauma Responsibilities
Emergency medicine physicians have limited trauma responsibilities at this facility.
Support & Technology
APP Coverage:
Approximately 12-20 hours of APP coverage available.
Transfer Center:
Easy transfer center process available for patients requiring a higher level of care.

Requirements
- MD or DO - Required
- Board Certified or Board Eligible Emergency Medicine - Required
- Active Iowa Medical License - Required
- IMLC accepted
- Active Iowa DEA - Required
- ACLS - Required
- ATLS - Required
- BLS - Required
- PALS - Required
Training Requirements:
Completion of an ACGME- or AOA-approved Emergency Medicine residency program.
Experience Requirements:
- Actively practicing as an Emergency Medicine physician for the last 12 months, or
- Completion of an Emergency Medicine residency within the last 6 months
Alternative Qualification:
Board Certified Family Medicine physicians may be considered with a minimum of 5 years of emergency department experience.
