Orthopedic Sports Medicine Locums Opportunity Illinois Position Overview

A Level II Trauma Center located approximately 45 minutes outside of downtown Chicago is seeking a fellowship-trained Orthopedic Sports Medicine Surgeon for a 6-month locums assignment beginning ASAP/July.

This opportunity is with an established orthopedic program due to a vacancy within the Sports Medicine team.

Facility Information
  • Facility: Rush Copley Medical Center
  • Setting: Level II Trauma Center
  • EMR: Epic
  • Support Team:
    • 6 Orthopedic Surgeons
    • Total physician provider staff of 11
    • APP support available

APPs typically assist with:

  • Post-op follow-ups
  • First assist duties in the OR
  • Shared ER call responsibilities from home
Schedule
  • 2 clinic days/week
    • 8:00a 5:00p with 1-hour lunch
  • 2 OR days/week
    • OR starts at 7:30a
  • Current OR block days are Mondays and Fridays, though flexibility may be available for the right candidate
Call Requirements Weekend Call
  • 1:7 weekends
  • Friday 5:00p Monday 7:00a
Weeknight Call
  • Shared among 6 additional surgeons
  • Some weeks no weekday call, other weeks one night/week
  • Call night will align with one scheduled shift day

Responsibilities include:

  • Taking ER phone consults
  • Rounding on admitted patients within 24 hours per medical staff bylaws
Case Mix & Procedures

Traditional Sports Medicine fellowship-trained case mix including:

  • ACL/MCL/PCL reconstruction
  • Meniscus procedures
  • Knee and ligament reconstruction
  • Bread-and-butter Sports Medicine cases
Required Experience

Candidates must have:

  • Multi-ligament procedure experience
  • Hip arthroscopy experience
  • Recent Sports Medicine surgical experience
Volumes
  • Clinic: Approximately patients/day
  • OR: Approximately 8 10 surgeries/week depending on case mix
Requirements
  • Fellowship-trained in Orthopedic Sports Medicine
  • Active Illinois license or IMLC eligibility required
  • DEA required
  • Will consider providers willing to obtain Illinois licensure through IMLC
  • Travel expenses billable
  • Credentialing timeframe: Approximately 3 months for temporary privileges
