Job description

Acommunity-based Emergency Department in Houston, Texas is seeking a LocumsEmergency Medicine Physician for an ongoing assignment. This opportunity isideal for physicians who enjoy practicing in a lower-acuity environment with amanageable patient volume and strong clinical support.

PositionHighlights
  • Assignment Length: Ongoing
  • Schedule: 12-hour shifts
    • 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM
    • 6:00 PM - 6:00 AM
  • Call: None
ClinicalEnvironment
  • 11-bed Emergency Department
  • Annual volume of approximately 15,000-16,000 visits
  • Average daily census of 30-40 patients
  • Approximately 4-5 admissions per day (13% admission rate)
  • Primarily young and generally healthy patient population
  • Low-acuity practice setting
  • Not a designated trauma, stroke, or cardiac center
  • Minimal EMS traffic
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and treat a wide range of emergency medical conditions
  • Perform standard Emergency Department procedures, primarily involving low- to moderate-acuity cases
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging studies, and other diagnostic evaluations
  • Provide care for adult, pediatric, and gynecologic patients
  • Coordinate care with consulting services, including pediatrics when needed
  • Document patient encounters accurately using the facility's electronic medical record
SupportStaff
  • Experienced Emergency Department nursing and ancillary staff
  • Standard hospital specialty call services
  • Dedicated Labor & Delivery unit separate from the Emergency Department
  • Pediatrician available in the Emergency Department during peak hours

Qualifications
  • ABEM Board Certification strongly preferred
  • Physicians who are not Emergency Medicine boarded will be considered if they have extensive Emergency Department experience and are comfortable treating pediatric and gynecologic patients
  • Active Texas medical license or ability to obtain licensure
  • Current DEA registration
  • ACLS, ATLS, PALS, and BLS certifications, as required
