Lake Tahoe Opportunity for Locums Psychiatrist -

Position Overview

In this role you will provide direct patient care across inpatient, outpatient, and structured day treatment behavioral health environments. This role is responsible for comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, DSM based diagnoses, psychopharmacology management, and the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans for patients with diverse and often complex behavioral health needs.

You will work with adults and children, including individuals with co occurring disorders such as substance use, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. Experience or interest in MAT is highly valued.

Minimum Requirements

  • MD/DO
  • California license
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
  • Active DEA and DPS registrations
  • Current BLS

Position Details

  • Schedule: Monday Friday, 8a 5p (10 hour shifts may be requested but not guaranteed)
  • Hours per Week:
  • Contract Length: 6 months with potential extension
  • Start Date: 08/25/2026
  • Population: Adults & children
  • Caseload: Co occurring disorders; MAT background preferred
  • Support Team: Psych tech, MA for scheduling, therapists, mental health workers
  • Supervision: No APP oversight
  • Charting System: Avatar

Core Clinical Responsibilities

  • Psychiatric Evaluations Conduct initial assessments, mental status exams, and DSM based diagnostic formulations.
  • Treatment Planning Develop individualized plans addressing psychiatric, behavioral, and medical needs.
  • Psychopharmacology Management Prescribe, monitor, and adjust medications.
  • Follow Up Care Provide ongoing visits, crisis evaluations, and stabilization appointments.
  • Diagnostic Oversight Order and review labs, tests, and medical records.
  • Documentation Maintain legally defensible charting within the county EHR.

Day Treatment & Telehealth Responsibilities

Mental Health Day Rehab South Lake Tahoe

  • Deliver psychiatric services within a structured day treatment environment.
  • Collaborate with therapists, case managers, and program staff to support stabilization and functional improvement.
  • Participate in team meetings, care coordination, and crisis intervention.
  • Support transitions between levels of care (day rehab outpatient community).

Western Slope Clinic Telehealth (Occasional)

  • Provide psychiatric care via telehealth to clients in Placerville and surrounding areas.
  • Coordinate care with therapists, nurses, and case managers.
  • Offer consultation to medical and behavioral health providers.

Collaborative & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Work within a multidisciplinary behavioral health team (therapists, clinicians, nurses, peer support, case managers).
  • Participate in departmental meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, county policies, and state regulations.
  • Provide consultation to primary care and behavioral health clinicians.

Visit Structure

  • 1 hour for new patient evaluations
  • 30 minutes for follow ups
