Job description
Northern New Jersey Region
Level II Special Care Nursery & Delivery Room Coverage Urgent Need for 2 APPs
Are you an experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) seeking a high-autonomy, hospital-based locum position in northern New Jersey? A premier regional medical center is urgently seeking two Advanced Practice Providers to manage their Level II Special Care Nursery and lead delivery room responses. This role is ideal for a clinician who thrives in an independent practice environment, offers exceptional schedule flexibility with zero on-call ties, and is comfortable acting as the primary pediatric responder in the building.
The OpportunityStep into a critical, high-autonomy role where you will serve as the sole on-site pediatric provider, anchoring both the newborn nursery and the labor and delivery decks.
Clinical Scope & Autonomy: You will practice independently with a physician available on backup call. Core responsibilities include:
Managing the daily clinical care and flowsheet rounds for the well-baby and Special Care Nursery.
Attending all Cesarean sections, high-risk vaginal deliveries, and any births specifically requested by the OB team.
Serving as the primary responder for neonatal resuscitations in the delivery room.
Note: On night shifts, cross-coverage involves evaluating infants if issues arise, routine charting, and checking in closely with the nursing staff.
Emergency & Transport Logistics: You will work alongside hospital Respiratory Therapists. In the event an infant requires advanced intensive care, they will be transferred to a nearby partner Level III NICU facility. If a baby requires transfer, a Neonatologist or an APP will accompany the transport ambulance. Remote phone consults with a neonatology team are available 24/7.
Patient Volume: Maintain a consistent, highly manageable daily workload. The nursery holds an average daily census of 5 infants, with an average of 5 deliveries per day. Total combined patient load is approximately 10 to 12 patients.
Flexible Scheduling: The facility requires round-the-clock coverage, offering highly adaptable 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM 7:00 AM). Shifts can be arranged as a combination of days, nights, or unified 24-hour blocks spanning weekdays, weekends, and holidays. There are no post-shift on-call responsibilities.
Technology: Fully integrated, streamlined charting using a centralized Epic EMR system.
Situated in a historic northern New Jersey county, this area offers a peaceful, suburban community vibe while sitting directly adjacent to major transit corridors and just minutes outside of New York City.
Cherry Blossom Destination: Known for its beautiful residential neighborhoods and immediate proximity to expansive regional parks that boast world-famous spring cherry blossom displays.
Local Convenience: Enjoy a wide array of local international eateries, quiet parks, and excellent shopping centers right in the immediate area.
Unbeatable Proximity: Located less than 15 miles from midtown Manhattan, giving you effortless access to world-class Broadway shows, shopping, and dining via quick regional transit networks.
Contract Structure: Fixed hourly compensation with robust, built-in daily and weekly overtime protections (overtime rates apply after 12 consecutive hours in a single shift).
Assignment Timeline: Urgent, ASAP start date with an initial multi-month block and ongoing coverage options.
Onboarding: Fully supported credentialing pathway managed directly through our agency's dedicated coordination team.
Because you will be the sole pediatric provider on-site for the majority of your shift, candidates must possess strong clinical confidence and acute care capabilities:
Licensure: Active, unencumbered New Jersey State Advanced Practice License (NP or PA).
Certifications: Complete, expert proficiency in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) protocols is an absolute requirement.
- Clinical Readiness: Strict comfort operating independently in the delivery room, managing neonatal emergencies, and executing newborn resuscitations without immediate on-site physician present
