RESPONSIBILITIES
Collect, clean, decontaminate, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments, trays, packs, and reusable medical equipment.
Operate and maintain sterile processing and high-level disinfection equipment safely and efficiently.
Inspect, assemble, organize, and prepare instrumentation and supplies for surgical procedures.
Maintain accurate documentation, inventory records, and sterilization logs in accordance with hospital and regulatory standards.
Assist with department orientation and support special projects or departmental needs as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or GED required.
Current Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) certification required and maintained.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained within 30 days of hire.
Strong knowledge of surgical instrumentation, sterilization techniques, disinfection practices, and infection control standards.
Minimum of two years of sterile processing experience in a clinical or hospital setting strongly preferred.
Ability to maintain detailed documentation, inventory management, and sterilization records accurately.
Strong communication skills, teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations.
Physical ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, lift, push, pull, carry, and perform repetitive hand motions throughout the workday.
ENVIRONMENT
The South Peninsula Hospital is a combined 22-bed Acute Care Critical Access Hospital and 28-bed Long Term Care facility located at the southern end of the Kenai Peninsula in South-Central Alaska. The hospital features two operating rooms and one endoscopy suite. This position works primarily indoors in a bright, fast-paced sterile processing environment that includes decontamination, clean/sterile workspaces, and endoscopy processing areas. Work schedules may vary based on department and surgical service needs.
Employees in this role may be exposed to infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, sharps injuries, heat, chemical cleaning agents, and potential muscle strain associated with repetitive physical tasks.
