Job description

Job Summary: The Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) will provide basic behavioural and psychiatric nursing care to mentally or developmentally disabled patients/youth in a correctional setting. Working under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Physicians, the LPT helps ensure the delivery of effective mental health services in compliance with institutional standards and regulations. Minimum Qualifications: - 36 continuous months of recent experience in a public or private institution (within the last 5 years). - Active and valid California license from the Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technicians. - Must read, write, and speak English fluently. - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association. Key Responsibilities: - Provide psychiatric nursing care and support to patients/youth. - Check on patients daily and monitor symptoms of mental illness. - Give prescribed medicines and treatments, including injections. - Take and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, breathing). - Help create treatment plans with the healthcare team. - Lead or support individual and group therapy sessions. - Schedule and coordinate patient appointments. - Work with custody staff to handle behavioural issues. - Respond to emergencies with CPR and first aid. - Keep clear and timely records as required. - Ensure a safe and supportive environment for patients.
