Physician Assistant Neurosurgery (Locum Tenens) Position Overview
A leading academic hospital is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join its Adult Neurosurgery inpatient team on a locum tenens basis. This role focuses exclusively on inpatient neurosurgical patient management and provides an opportunity to work alongside residents and multidisciplinary care teams in a high-acuity hospital setting.
Schedule
- 3 shifts per week
- 13-hour day shifts (6:00 AM 7:00 PM)
- No night coverage
- No call responsibilities
- No holiday coverage required
- Weekend coverage may be included as part of the regular schedule
Practice Setting
- Acute care hospital
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- Inpatient neurosurgery service
- Epic electronic medical record system
Responsibilities
- Participate in daily inpatient neurosurgery rounds with residents and attending physicians
- Review patient care plans and implement treatment recommendations
- Enter and manage patient orders
- Conduct patient evaluations and follow-up assessments as needed
- Coordinate discharge planning and patient transitions of care
- Collaborate closely with physicians, residents, nurses, and ancillary staff
- Provide direct patient care throughout hospitalization
- Preferred experience with removal of surgical drains, including Hemovac and Jackson-Pratt (JP) drains
Note: This position is focused on inpatient patient care. Operating room responsibilities are not included.
Requirements:
- Board Certified Physician Assistant
- Active Massachusetts Physician Assistant license
- Minimum of 1 year of neurosurgery experience required
- Experience in inpatient neurosurgical patient management preferred
- Proficiency with Epic EMR required
